Phone Kyaw
Chairman
Phone Kyaw is the founder of Mining Watch Myanmar Inc., an organization dedicated to promoting responsible mining practices in Myanmar. With over 17 years of experience in the mining sector, Phone has been actively involved in the industry since 2007, starting his career in Western Australia as a field technician.
Phone has worked with some of the most notable mining companies, including Red5 Ltd, Goldfields, AngloGold Ashanti, De Grey Mining, Poseidon Nickel, and Focus Minerals, where he gained extensive experience in exploration, resource management, and operational safety.
He holds a Certificate III in Mining Exploration from Central TAFE (2007), and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Geology at Curtin University. Additionally, Phone is working towards his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Murdoch University, with a focus on integrating sustainable business practices into the mining industry.
Phone has also not completed a Bachelor of Environmental Management from Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Perth, Australia, reflecting his strong commitment to environmental stewardship in mining operations. He is a proud member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), reinforcing his dedication to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and sustainability in the mining sector.

Ko Zay is a dedicated and versatile member of Mining Watch, bringing a distinctive blend of expertise in engineering, computer science, and mining to represent Myanmar. With a solid foundation in computer science and recognition as a Microsoft Certified Professional, he blends advanced technical knowledge with hands-on engineering experience acquired over years in the fire protection and M&E sectors. Since transitioning to the mining industry post-COVID, Ko Zay has engaged extensively in the exploration, trading, and extraction of resources such as coal, gold, antimony, and lead. His well-established connections within the engineering and mining sectors, including strategic alliances with mineral groups in Yunnan, contribute valuable insight and collaboration opportunities to the organization. Ko Zay’s strong project planning abilities and diverse skill set reinforce Mining Watch’s mission for responsible resource management and sustainable development.
